People are Amazing | America Update

Humanity ain’t all that bad.

I don’t know about you but with the dreadful things happening in the world right now, I feel the need to be reminded that humanity isn’t a waste of oxygen on this planet… So before I curl up under a blanket and exhaust the content on Netflix to ignore the dismal state of the world, I’m going to tell you all about some truly amazing people who are helping me fund raise for my trip to America.

Let me first tell you about some support that, once again, appeared unexpectedly but wonderfully through social media. (Names concealed for anonymity). An ex nurse from Naomi House and Jacksplace contacted me on Facebook and told me that her husband had been talking to a charity about me and my dream to go to America.  Her husband has been a supporter of this particular charity for 25 years and has raised around £80,000 for them. (How amazing is that?!) The charity is called Dreams Come True, a charity that helps children and young people with serious and life-limiting disabilities to fulfill their dreams. The age range criteria for the charity is between 2 and 21, sadly that makes me 2 years too old.

But! And this the truly amazing part, because of how much the gentleman I mentioned above has helped Dreams Come True, the charity has offered to help me with getting to America despite my age! I’ve been wanting to tell you about this for ages but it wasn’t certain until a couple of weeks ago. I’ve filled out the application and await to be paired with a dream coordinator. The level Dreams Come true is able to support me is as of yet unknown, but absolutely any support is wonderful and I couldn’t be more grateful!

But that’s not all….

My Mum works for a local private physiotherapy practice as a physiotherapist. When I started this fundraising campaign for America and released my campaign video she naturally showed her colleagues. One colleague of hers was so impressed that they discussed with the rest of the team about what they could do together as a practice to help me raise some money. To cut a long story short, a team of people from the practice (including my Mum!) have decided to do a sponsored climb of Mount Snowdon! Yeah! Really! And they will be doing this on Saturday! (13th May for those of you reading in the future).

But wait! There’s more! As well as the sponsored climb, in their reception waiting room the practice have put together a little slideshow about me and my trip and information about their climb and they’ve also put a collection jar and called it ‘Coppers for Kate’! Also, they’re planning a cake sale! As well as all of that (as if that wasn’t enough!) they are going to help me sell my photography….

These. People. Are. Awesome. I’m completely and utterly lost for words to describe my gratitude for what they are doing for me, I literally can’t thank them enough! So please, head over to the Rodger Duckworth Physiotherapy Practice Facebook Page and give them all the love and encouragement you can! They deserve it so much! If you would like to support them by donating you can through my page – just write ‘Climb For Kate’ with your donation so the team can add it to their total!

I haven’t told you about the title photo of this post yet have I? Well it’s a photo of a flag that I got printed with my logo on it and they will be taking the flag on the climb with them! I’ve also decided that this flag will be coming with me across America and I’ll be writing on it each location it’s been photographed in.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that is supporting me, helping with fundraising and to those donating your hard earned money. It’s with absolute delight for me to announce that together, at the time of writing, we have reached……

I never in a million years thought I’d get this far. You are wonderful people. All of this reminds me that there are good people in this world and I’m completely humbled by it all.

Thank you.

They are just two words, but right now that’s all I have.

Until next time, be kind and live your dream! xxx
